Something I have commonly heard when discussing topics of environmental issues to my peers, is how combating these
issues requires a great amount of work and time. This is one of the main reasons that prevent individuals from taking part in the advocacy of environmental issues such as global warming, water pollution, deforestation, etc. Of course, this statement can be true depending on what kind of change you want to make to the environment; however, when it comes to how an individual can help the environment on their own, it can be quite simple. Most of us spend hours on our mobile devices for entertainment, school or work, and to contact others. For this reason, many talented web application developers have created apps that can aid in the betterment of the environment.
Olio
This application is available on IOS and Android and its objective is to reduce food waste in your local area. The instructions are quite simple as all that is required is a picture taken of your food, cleaning products, and miscellaneous items that are in good condition. Once uploaded on the app, interested users can contact you for those items. This app helps with saving money and reducing food waste. Olio is still operating during the pandemic especially for those in need of saving money and are interested in great quality goods.
Flora
This application is available on IOS, Google Play, and as a chrome extension. The purpose of Flora is to help with productivity and block distractions. The app will begin by planting a tree in which the amount of time you spend doing a task without leaving the app, the tree will continue to grow. The more trees you grow, the more unique plants you can unlock as well as building your own virtual garden. This application is also interactive as you can compete with friends to grow the biggest plant! The best part about Flora, second to helping with productivity, is its environmental component. Flora has partnered with tree planting organizations such as Tree for the Future and Eden Reforestation Projects that work with communities in Africa, East Asia, and South America to plant trees. These trees include fruit trees to help with nutrition, and trees that offer forage and fuel-wood. If you upgrade to Flora Care, you are able to pay $9.99 for the app to grow a real tree once you have reached 24 hours of work. This application is amazing as it benefits the environment, helps financial aid for families that live in the communities listed above, and lastly, improves your productivity.
JouleBug
The objective of this application on Google Play or IOS is for users to incorporate their everyday habits in which the app would recommend a more sustainable way to perform such habits. The app tracks your progress, including the impact you have made for the environment and has challenges you can complete to compete against your friends or other users. The apps’ ability to let you share photos of you helping the environment makes it like a social media platform! This application is meant for people who want to make a difference to the environment and would like to incorporate environmentally friendly habits into their everyday routine.
These are just a few of many applications, so be sure to research more of these amazing web creations! Also, remember whichever application you choose to download today, you are making a difference!
