Happy New Year, everyone! As we look ahead at this new year that we find ourselves in, we want to introduce to you a few more additions to our blog writing team. Many of our writers from 2021 will be continuing their work with us (yay!), and we have invited a handful more to round out our team.
You can look back at Meet Our Writers! and Meet Our Writers: Part 2!
If you’re a high school student in Ontario looking for opportunities to get involved in food systems learning while also fulfilling your community service hours, consider joining us! Note: There is a short waitlist at this time, but we’re excited to welcome all new signups throughout 2022.
We are incredibly grateful for the amazing group of youth we work with each day in fulfilling our mission – here are a few more of them:
Nabiha
Hey everyone! My name is Nabiha and I am a 16 year old 11th grade student in Burlington. I am definitely not a sports person, but I am a fast reader and writer. Anyone who knows me can agree on one thing, I am a very loud and outgoing person. I am always excited about one thing or another, singing karaoke in the halls, or just being a book cover extrovert. I absolutely love reading, and aside from wanting to be a doctor, my dream is to have a personal study with a rolling ladder. My current top books being Six of Crows (and every book in the Grishaverse), The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hugo, and The Spanish Love Deception.
I am more of a fact-based person, sticking to informative writing, science, and math. This blog has been an opportunity to try a more informal approach, and honestly, it is hard not to pull out a statistic in every sentence or a word that brings Shakespeare to shame. I developed my writing so much from this blog, and I hope all of you enjoy my work as much as I am proud of it.
Amelia
Hello! My name is Amelia and I am a 15-year-old from Waterloo. I’m an artist, an amateur gardener, and an aspiring people person. At first, what brought me to this blog was my love for writing. I spend a lot of my free time creative writing or keeping a journal. Recently, I have rediscovered how wonderful libraries are and I hope to spend some time there researching for the blog and reading for some inspiration! It’s been fun to learn about topics related to food systems, which are ideas that I wouldn’t have discovered if it weren’t for the blog.
Reva
Greetings! My name is Reva and I currently reside in the GTA. I am a high schooler who enjoys the art of writing. Also, I have other hobbies that provide me with satisfaction. Such hobbies include watching hockey, Netflix, and playing video games on occasion. The environment has also been of interest to me as its envelopes all of us; when it becomes affected we soon feel the effects as well. The human mind also piques my curiosity as well, as in my spare time I like to learn about the subject of psychology. As an extension of writing articles for my school newsletter, I also take immense pride in writing for the WRSFG Blog. I look forward to further honing my craft!
Juiee
Hello there! My name is Juiee. I am 13 years old. Currently, I am in grade 8 and am attending middle school in a program called ‘International Baccalaureate’ (or IB for short).
The IB program specializes in teaching subjects at a global level. Hence, I love learning not only local but also global topics! In fact, learning about issues in our environment has also been a passion of mine!
Being a grade 8 student in the IB program, I am currently working on a project dedicated to advocating and improving on the global issue of Climate Change. I am working on bringing more awareness of this issue to all students in my middle school. This involves creating and leading a ‘Climate Club’, taking actions towards conserving as well as planting trees within the school boundary, etc. My end goal is to inspire others in making continuous change and improvement towards this global issue.
In addition, writing has also been a hobby of mine. Since early childhood I used to write in my diary almost everyday! Although I don’t get the chance to write as often in it nowadays, I always check back on it and write a bit from time to time.
Having said that, I was immediately interested in volunteering with Waterloo Region School Food Gardens! I can’t wait to start blog writing!!!
