Eating Seasonally

Eating the local seasonal produce has loads of benefits for you and the environment!

As the weather cools down and the seasons change, new produce will be ready for harvest.

Benefits of Eating Seasonally

Seasonal food is fresher, more nutritious, and tastier! Also, since the foods in season come in such a large amount – they can often be cheaper than produce out of season! Eating seasonally means eating locally, which is SO much better for the environment. Eating seasonally lowers the transportation needed and therefore lowers your carbon footprint.

Along with lowering your carbon footprint, if you aren’t buying produce from overseas you are also lessening your risk of getting contaminants in your food. Some agriculture overseas may not be regulated and can be filled with liquid contaminants such as methyl bromide, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and soil contaminants such as heavy metals.

By purchasing your produce locally it supports your local farmers and maintains farmland. Purchasing locally also allows you to know more about your food and how it was grown (avoiding those yucky contaminates).
