We’ve all seen those pesky weeds in the grass while walking outside, and how satisfying it was to pluck them out. The reality is, we should be continuously doing this throughout the warmer seasons, as these weeds are harmful because they outcompete more desirable plants for nutrients, water, and sunlight. So let’s take a look at how you can spot weeds, and how to effectively remove them!
How To Spot Weeds
You can tell weeds apart using the following tricks:
- Weeds appear in random places
- Leaves that look different from nearby plants often belong to weeds
- Some weeds have thicker or hairier stems than your crops
How to Pluck the Weeds Out!
The first step is to soften the soil around it. This can be done through watering or waiting for rain. Once the area is wet, grip the weed at its base, and hold it as close to the ground as possible. Make sure that you pull slowly and firmly, as pulling too quickly can snap the weed in half. If the roots are extremely deep, you might want to use a tool which specializes in plucking out these weeds. Once plucked, grab any leftover pieces of the weed.

There you have it! You have learned how to successfully spot a weed and are now educated on how to efficiently and effectively pluck it out. A few minutes of plucking weeds out each week keeps your space neat, your plants stronger, and your future self thankful.
