Whether it’s to celebrate for a soccer game your kid won, or to have a family gathering, you have most likely been to a restaurant to splurge and eat some tasty food! Although having fun and eating delicious food is a priority, we also want to make sure we are advocating for safe and secure practices! This means that the food which is obtained by the restaurants is sourced locally, organically, and packaged using methods which are eco-friendly. The staff should be working in clean, healthy conditions to ensure the ethicality as well as positivity remains throughout. With all of that being considered, let’s take a look at some examples of Canadian restaurants engaged in sustainable food practices!
Kitchen Toronto – Located in downtown Toronto, the 1 Kitchen restaurant is an awesome place to go to if you’re craving some fresh veggies, while also being arguably one of the most sustainable restaurants in Canada! They are most known for obtaining all of their ingredients locally within a 100 kilometer range, reducing their carbon footprint. They strive to use energy efficiently through having glass walls to allow natural sunlight to come in, utilizing energy efficient appliances, and walls which help insulate the space within. These initiatives not only advocate for being eco-friendly in all aspects, but it also helps keep the positivity for the customers throughout the restaurant!
Antler Kitchen Bar – Located on Dundas West in Toronto, creates a heartwarming environment through highlighting local foods, fancy cocktails, and well thought-out dishes to impress visitors. Being a more carnivore oriented restaurant, they help minimize waste by utilizing each animal product to the fullest, as well as using every last drop of their ingredients! With a hint of creativity, they are able to minimize waste by taking what one may observe as scraps, and using them for food stockings, garnishes, and even sauces! Instead of having a factory which mass produces the meat, they locally obtain their animal products. They are harvested so that the animals don’t overpopulate but also in a way where their natural habitats remain undisturbed. Through these sustainable practices, they are able to run a delicious restaurant, while also maintaining the quality and perfection.
Conclusion
Feeling hungry after hearing about all of these delicious plates which are also sustainable? Next time you go out to eat, consider the impact of the food you eat, as every sustainable meal we eat is helping shape a more imperishable future. Bon appétit!
