Roadside and ditch planting

Postby member14398 » Sat Jul 15, 2017 3:47 pm

We have just moved to the country and have an opportunity to create a roadside and ditch garden. I am looking for suggestions from the members and seeds to get started. We face south and live in Prince Edward County.

Some of the wineries have planted holly hocks and some farms planted orange tiger lilies. We were hoping to use native species and natural pollinators and heritage plants. We are looking for design advice, types of plants to use, when to plant, etc.

Has anyone created or have a roadside and ditch garden who wants to share ideas with me?

Both hollyhocks and lilies are very popular with the deer in my neighbourhood.

Wildflowers native to your area would make a nice garden at the road and ditch.
If the ditches fill with water------look up rain gardens and plants used in them.
Wildflowers are often good for encouraging the bee population too.
