Invasive roots all throughout garden

Postby MarcGuay » Sat Jun 17, 2017 5:20 pm

Hi folks,

When I went to dig out my compost this spring I found that it was full of roots stealing my precious nutrients. As I've been working in the garden I've found them in other places as well. There is a maple tree in the neighbour's yard and Virginia creeper all throughout the neighbourhood. I'm in Verdun, Montreal, Quebec if that helps to identify, along with photos attached. I'd love to know what it is and what I can do about cohabitating with it.

I wonder if this is "Virginia creeper" (Parthenocissus quinquefolia). It can spread very quickly underground and the roots in these photos look familiar to me...
