The foods we eat have a great impact on the environment, from what materials are used to package them, to the waste they cause. With climate change becoming a bigger issue as time goes by, we need to be mindful of the impacts the foods we eat have on the environment. Here are <\/span><b>5 common foods<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that have negative impacts on the environment, and their alternatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>1. <\/strong><\/span><strong>Cow Beef to Chicken<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To start, cow beef is one of the most popular meats in the world. Though it is widely consumed, it releases greenhouse gas emissions into the air, which causes climate change and pollution. According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/davidrvetter\/2020\/10\/05\/got-beef-heres-what-your-hamburger-is-doing-to-the-climate\/?sh=223c01385206\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">forbes.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, one kilogram of beef releases <\/span><b>60 kilograms<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of greenhouse gas emissions into the air. These include methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide. Dairy Cheese to Vegan Cheese<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Secondly, like beef, dairy cheese is up high on the list for being one of the biggest emitters of carbon dioxide in the world. It is ranked as the third-worst food, accounting for <\/span><b>21 kilograms<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of carbon dioxide emitted for every kilogram of cheese. Another reason it is so bad is that it requires a lot of milk to make. A kilogram of cheese requires 10 liters of milk, which can be very harmful coming from cows. It is owned by a huge company called \u201cMondel\u0113z\u201d, which also owns \u201cCadbury\u201d, \u201cRitz\u201d, \u201cChips Ahoy!\u201d, and more. \u201cMondel\u0113z\u201d uses palm oil for its foods, which is extremely harmful to the environment. Palm oil is a major cause of deforestation and releases mass amounts of carbon dioxide into the air. \u201cMondel\u0113z\u201d has promised to use more sustainable palm oil, but according to a report from the World Wide Fund for Nature, their efforts are inadequate to stop deforestation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-7646 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/seeds.ca\/schoolfoodgardens\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/o5-300x236.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seeds.ca\/schoolfoodgardens\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/o5-300x236.png 300w, https:\/\/seeds.ca\/schoolfoodgardens\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/o5.png 425w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As \u201cOreos\u201d have a significantly negative impact on the environment, an alternative food that you could eat is \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Back to Nature Classic Creme cookies<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Despite its popularity, \u201cCoca-Cola\u201d has also been reported as one of the most unethical companies in the world due to its large amounts of plastic pollution. Almonds to Hazelnuts<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lastly, almonds are known to be the least environmentally friendly nuts to produce as they require lots of water in the process. According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@BountifulAg\/almond-water-footprint-a-new-perspective-7e401851d344\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">medium.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a single almond requires <\/span><b>at least 4 liters of water<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to grow. Water scarcity is becoming a global issue around the world with many countries having a lack of water clean supply. Hazelnuts require significantly less amount of water than almonds, as they are drought-resistant.
