W<\/span>e are currently in times where big grocery chains are dominating the food sector, with there being limited space for local producers to thrive. It is important that we recognize them, as they are part of what makes our community a healthier place through providing many with local produce. It is the reason why along with the big grocery chains, there are also many organizations which aid in educating communities about their local options, which as a result will allow both sides to benefit. So let\u2019s take a look at some organizations which are responsible for promoting local foods for the Kitchener Waterloo Region!<\/span><\/p>\n

Food4Kids\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

Around 4,000 kids don\u2019t have access to enough f<\/span>ood to allow them to thrive mentally, physically, o<\/span>r socially. Food4Kids helps solve that problem, t<\/span>hrough their weekend programs, school break p<\/span>rograms, and summer break programs. All these p<\/span>eriods are times where kids don\u2019t have access to f<\/span>ood. Food4Kids delivers local and nourishing f<\/span>ood packages to the kids who need it, allowing t<\/span>hem to thrive in all aspects.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the Food Bank of WR, 1 in 8 homes n<\/span>eed food assistance, and they help fix that problem. t<\/span>hrough food hampers, community meals, nutritional o<\/span>utreach, and residential means, they help provide n<\/span>ourished meals to families who don\u2019t have access to l<\/span>ocal and fresh produce. They are able to provide such m<\/span>eals through partnering with other organizations a<\/span>nd donations from members of the community.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Kitchener Farmers Market is an iconic staple i<\/span>n the heart of downtown Kitchener which strives f<\/span>or its local and fresh produce. Operating since 1869, the Kitchener Farmers Market has over 80 vendors which sell a variety of fresh produce from tomatoes to eggs. They allow these vendors to come and sell their local produce, benefiting those who come to shop as well as the vendors themselves. The Kitchener Farmers Market acts as a place to connect and a community gathering space!<\/span><\/p>\n

These three organizations, including many more, help provide local and fresh produce to the Waterloo Region community. Aside from that, these organizations also allow community gatherings, which as a result builds strong connections among the region.
