Perhaps they\u2019re carved, perhaps not. Either way, if you have ever carved a pumpkin before, or just cut one open, you\u2019ll know what pumpkin seeds look like fresh from the fruit. Even if you haven\u2019t ever done this before (since not everyone participates in pumpkin-carving or eating traditions around Halloween), you\u2019ve probably eaten or at least seen pumpkin seeds at a grocery store or market. <\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/freerangestock.com\/photos\/122633\/pumpkin-halved-on-cutting-board.html\">Image Source<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For most people, roasting pumpkin seeds will be the most common way to consume these protein-rich seeds. A drizzle of oil, some cinnamon or salt, and a hot oven, and you\u2019re good to go. But I\u2019m here to let you know about some other amazing ways to use pumpkin seeds &#8211; to eat, to admire, and to re-grow.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-13854 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/seeds.ca\/schoolfoodgardens\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Pumpkin-Seeds.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"265\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:Pumpkin_Seeds_macro_1.jpg\">Image Source<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><b>To Eat\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><b><i>Roasted Garlic and Pumpkin Hummus<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ingredients\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the Roasted Garlic<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2192 1\/2 cup olive oil<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2192 3 cloves garlic, smashed<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the Hummus<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2192 1 15.5-ounce can chickpeas, drained<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2192 1 c. canned pure pumpkin puree<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2192 2 Tbsp. lemon juice, plus more if needed<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2192 2 Tbsp. tahini<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2192 1\/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2192 Salt, to taste<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2192 1\/4 c. raw pumpkin seeds \u2b50<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instructions:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Roast the garlic and olive oil at 375 \u030a for 15-20 minutes\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Add the roasted garlic plus 2 tablespoons of the oil to a food processor. Add chickpeas, pumpkin puree, lemon juice, tahini, pumpkin pie spice and salt. Blend, then add a bit more of the roasted garlic oil. Taste and add a bit more salt and lemon juice if needed. Did you know saving seeds from your pumpkins is a simple process that will allow you to have seeds for growing your own pumpkins next year? If you want to go this route, double check the growing conditions and variety of pumpkin you have (the farm you got it from should know!). If you have an unusual or heirloom variety, even better.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are the basic steps:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Scoop the seeds out of your pumpkin\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Rinse the seeds under water to remove as much of the pulp as possible\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Use a cloth or paper towels to remove any leftover pulp clinging to the seeds\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Pick out the biggest, best looking seeds to keep. Use the rest for eating or admiring \ud83d\ude09\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Let the seeds air dry completely. This will take a few weeks. If you can air dry them on a screen, that\u2019s a great method because it allows the air to reach the seeds from top and bottom.
