However, as climate change gets worse with the years, there is a drastic, obvious impact on food systems. Climate change causes more contrast, fierce storms, floods, and droughts to happen yearly, ultimately destroying food production. This leads to less food that is able to be eaten, limits access to food, affects food quality, and makes food more expensive to get.

With the temperatures increasing annually it is also increasing pests and diseases pressure from the bettering of winter – survival of new and existing species. Canada especially with a short growing season and with our frigid winters we depend heavily on other countries for food that can’t be grown here to be shipped, and when there are a ton of food shortages that’s a big problem for many of us. Studies have shown that 80% of our earth’s population is most at danger of crop failure and malnourishment from climate change. Especially in places like Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and southeast Asia, where farming families are disproportionately poor and vulnerable. Not only that, traditional food systems are endangered because of climate change, like rising water, and traditional knowledge on managing and harvesting these foods are going adrift. Indigenous people deal with higher rates of food insecurity.

Climate change not only affects many people around the world but people right here in our community, and we have to do our part to help everybody to make sure that they get food they deserve.

Sources Cited —————

Climate Change, Global Food Security, and the U.S. Food System.
