This is evidence of speciation and adaptation, and is the process that causes the biological diversity\u00a0we see in nature.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"_04xlpA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"JsGRdQ\"><strong>Cross pollination<\/strong>: Pollination (see <\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\">pollination<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\">) of a flower with pollen (see <\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\">pollen<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\">) from a different flower.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"_04xlpA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"JsGRdQ\"><strong>Egg<\/strong>: Haploid female gamete (reproductive cell) located within the ovary (see<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\"> ovary<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\">) of a flowering plant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"_04xlpA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"JsGRdQ\"><strong>Family<\/strong>:\u00a0One of the eight major hierarchical taxonomic ranks, classified\u00a0between order and genus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"_04xlpA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><strong>Fertilization<\/strong>: The process of combining the male gamete (see<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\"> pollen<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">) with the female gamete (see<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">\u00a0egg<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"_04xlpA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><strong style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Food system<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">: Involves all the processes and infrastructure involved in feeding a population. It takes into account everything that happens to a certain piece of food before it is consumed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"_04xlpA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><strong style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Nectar<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">: A sugary fluid secreted by plants and consumed by some animals for energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"_04xlpA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><strong>Ovary<\/strong>: Enlarged lower part of the pistil (see <\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">pistil<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">), containing the eggs (see <\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">egg<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">) of the plant. After fertilization (see <\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">fertilization<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">) the ovary will mature into a fruit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"_04xlpA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><strong>Perfect flower<\/strong>: A flower in which both male and female reproductive structures (see <\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">stamen<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\"> and <\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">pistil<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">) are present.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"_04xlpA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><strong>Pistil<\/strong>: The female reproductive part of a flower, consisting of the ovary at the base (see <\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">ovary<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">), the middle part, called the style, and the stigma at the tip (see <\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">stigma<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"_04xlpA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><strong style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Pollen<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">:\u00a0Substance consisting of pollen grains, which produce male gametes (reproductive cells) and is consumed by some animals for food.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"_04xlpA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><strong>Pollination<\/strong>: The act of transferring pollen (see <\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">pollen<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">) from the male part of the flower (see <\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">stamen<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">) to the female part (see <\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">stigma<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">). Pollination can occur by pollinators (see <\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">pollinators<\/span><span class=\"JsGRdQ\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">), wind, water, or hand.
