Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer with us!

You can make a difference in the community and have long-lasting impact on our program by becoming a volunteer. It means the world to us, to the schools we serve, and to the wider community.

Many of our activities and events are made possible by volunteers! Being a small team of only 3 paid staff members for most of the year, we simply cannot do it all without additional hands, minds, and hearts.

This is a great opportunity to learn new skills, make new friends, and earn your community service hours if needed. Whether you love gardening or want to pick up on a new hobby or skill, we welcome volunteers of all age groups and expertise! After all, all professionals were once beginners too! Check out our list of typical volunteer roles with WRSFG, and sign up to volunteer at the bottom of the page.

Note: Not all of the following positions are available at all times, as seasonality plays a large role in what we do. COVID-19 may also have an impact on what positions are currently available.

Garden Build Assistant

Garden build assistants work on-site at schools and education centres to help with one-day builds of wooden garden beds. If you are someone who has leadership skills, enjoys working outdoors, and/or has an interest in construction, this role might be for you!

Note: This role is on hold due to COVID-19.

Garden Maintenance Assistant

A garden simply cannot flourish without maintenance and that is where we need your help! If you enjoy working outdoors, getting your hands dirty, and being surrounded by beautiful plants, you may be who we’re looking for!

Note: This role will re-open in Spring 2022.

Do you have a creative eye for capturing the best moments at the perfect angles? We are looking for photographers/videographers to join us at our garden builds, maintenance days, and events to take candid photos and videos to be posted on our social media, newsletter, and website! No professional experience or special equipment necessary.

Note: This role will re-open in Spring 2022.

Web Developer

Our website is always a work in progress! If you have experience with web development, this role could be for you! We have opportunities for regular website maintenance and the development of brand new components.

Delivery Driver

Do you have a vehicle and the ability to drive throughout Waterloo Region? We are looking for local individuals willing to help us from time to time with shuttling produce and prizes to various spots throughout the region.

Note: This role will re-open in Spring 2022.

Ready to sign up? Fill out the Form linked below and we will be in touch as soon as possible. Any questions or ideas for other volunteer opportunities can be directed to wrschoolfoodgardens@gmail.com
