Back to October 2014 Newsletter
The Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security is now accepting applications for the Seed Facilitation Fund. The goal of the fund is to provide financial support to producers and organizations seeking to support the production of ecologically-grown vegetable seed and field crop seed.
Applications Due: November 17th, 2014
The goal of the Seed Facilitation Fund is to help build a diverse and resilient seed system by strengthening the capacity of ecological vegetable seed and field crop producers. The Fund provides financial support to organizations and individuals who share the values and goals of our program, and who are undertaking initiatives that help advance the following objectives:
Our program focuses on ecological vegetable seed and field crops that are important for food security, can be viably grown in Canada, and have commercial potential.
Regarding ecological vegetable seed, we are particularly interested in supporting projects that help ecological seed producers and seed companies scale up production and distribution, in order to supply local farmers with local seed. On the field crops side, we are particularly interested in helping the organic field crop sector respond to demand, which currently outstrips the supply in Canada.
Applicants may submit proposals for a maximum of $8,000 per project. In total, approximately $200,000 will be allocated across the country in 2015.
This call for proposals launched October 6, 2014.
The deadline for applications is November 17, 2014.
Funding decisions will be communicated applicants during the week of December 15, 2014.
All activities and expenses included within proposed projects must take place between January 15 and December 15, 2015.
Individuals and organizations who received funding from The Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security in 2014 are eligible to submit an application for funding in 2015. Those with ongoing grants will be contacted to discuss the status of the 2014 project, and how the work achieved this year relates to the project proposed for 2015.
