For the past three growing seasons, the Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security championed 24 seed demonstration sites across Canada, to showcase and evaluate varieties of vegetables and field crops being preserved, adapted, or bred by organic and ecological farmers in Canada.
We are excited to share the highlights of their work, and we hope you'll take a moment to see the incredible results!
"Seeds are the foundation of agriculture, and seed diversity is critical to the success of climate-resilient farming systems.
Preserving, improving, and developing seed diversity for organic, ecological, and climateresilient farming systems offer promising solutions, not only in helping farmers reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also in providing ecological benefits and building resilience to changing climatic conditions."
Seeds of Diversity is proud to be a partner in the Bauta Initiative, and we congratulate all the farmers, researchers, and organizations who have helped make this work possible. We hope that this publication inspires more seed diversity, more on-farm crop breeding, and a greater understanding of the amazing work that farmers are doing behind the scenes to save and improve Canada's seed security.
An annual membership to Seeds of Diversity gives you access to our seed exchange, seed grow-out programs, and our online news.
