Finding Seed

We’re of course excited about helping you locate some of your favourite or as-yet-undiscovered varieties, so we’ve compiled a list of online resources to assist you in your search. Check out these online catalogues and databases to identify sources of Canadian, heritage, organic or other hard-to-find seed:

Seeds of Diversity Canada’s Canadian Seed Catalogues Inventory –a list of all the vegetable and fruit seeds we know to have been sold in recent years by Canadian seed companies. Searchable by crop, with direct links to the websites of all the fantastic companies offering the varieties you want.

Seeds of Diversity’s new 2012 Member Seed Directory – over 3500 varieties of vegetable, fruit, grain, herb and flower seeds saved by 120 Seeds of Diversity Members and made available for sale or trade. This particular resource is available to current members only - your link and password will be coming soon. Join if you want to check it out - this year's directory is our largest yet!

Canadian Organic Growers Organic Seed Database  - a database of Canadian and Certified Organic vegetable, grain and forage seed searchable by crop, variety and supplier.

Cyndi’s Catalog of Garden Catalogues - A listing of over 2000 mail-order gardening catalogues in the US and Canada! Lists companies and provides ratings for quality, service, price and breadth of varieties.

And of course, there’s little better than going in person to a Seedy Saturday event to buy or swap seed with other local growers. Keep an eye on our ever-growing list of events right across the country for one near you.
