It's a whole new year, and the gardening season starts with seed catalogues. Canadians are fortunate to have nearly 100 garden seed companies to choose from, but one of the most interesting ways to find new seeds is to discover what home-grown seed savers have to offer.
Our Member Seed Directory is Canada's largest seed exchange, where members offer over 1780 different kinds of seeds from their own gardens. Vegetables, flowers, herbs, grains, fruit, and some plants you've never heard of. If you're looking for diversity, this is where you will find it.
If you haven't renewed your membership for 2021, do it now and get your password to activate the full directory.
Memberships normally expire each December 31. Check the box to the right to see your current membership status.

Seedy Saturdays and Seedy Sundays in 2021: They're happening!
When you hear the words “Seedy Saturday”, what comes to mind? For many of us, those words conjure images of people gathered around tables chatting about gardening while admiring and swapping packets of seeds. In other words, a whole lot of things that we simply cannot do right now. Last year, when COVID-19 reached Canada, many Seedy Saturday and Seedy Sunday events had no choice but to cancel at the last moment, an incredible disappointment for thousands of people across the country. Almost half (79 out of 167!) events that were scheduled to occur coast to coast did not get to take place.
Where Will You Get Your Seeds This Year?
Spring might seem far away, but it isn't too soon to think about which seeds you'll grow this year! Where will you find them? Canadians are fortunate to have nearly 100 seed companies to choose from, but the choices don't stop there. Whether you buy your seeds from a catalogue, order them through a seed exchange, or pick them up at one of the many seed libraries in communities across the country, look for seeds that are organic, open-pollinated, and grown locally.
Community Seed Grow-outs
Are you a seed saver looking for a meaningful garden project this summer? We have three ideas for you!
If you're fairly new at saving seeds, we suggest the "Save One Rare Variety Challenge". If you're confident at saving bean or tomato seeds, we could use your help with some older seeds. And if you want to try your hand at plant breeding, you can participate in our ground cherry breeding project.
